Grid

Today's topic: “As photographers, what do we gain by doing things the hard way?” got everyone thinking about plugins. Is it wise to use them without understanding how to process without them? Is it expected since it saves time and gets you back to shooting faster? Is it cheating? Is it more important to take a "purist" approach? Does any of it really matter? Of course there are no right answers, just thoughts and opinions… and there were a lot of them on the live blog discussion. Plus, Scott and Matt fielded a bunch of "ask us anything" questions. Austrailian-born wedding photographer Jerry Ghionis joined Matt Kloskowski in the studio for what will go down in history as one of the "Best. Grids. EVER!" Sure, it took us a little while to get to the subject of photography, but the hilarity in the beginning actually reinforced the reasons (that soon became evident) exactly why Jerry is an amazing and successful photographer. The audience that waited for the wisdom came away with an aching belly from the laughter and an enlightened idea on how to approach their clients AND their marketing. One memorable quote, "Money without time is nothing." BONUS: Jerry would like to offer all Grid viewers a $100 discount on an Ice Society membership with the code: ICESALE (good for 2 weeks). All links are below. PS: Side note to "Raul" who asked a million times… After the show, Jerry told us that he handles wedding shoots where he doesn't speak the language by asking a translator to tell the subject to mirror his directions. He also said that his tone of voice will help a lot in giving directions even if the subject doesn't know the language. Ok, Scott and RC do not mean to sound negative BUT….. Nah, just kidding. That was the topic that got this week's blues-laden episode of the Grid going. Interestingly enough, their main discussion - "Is just working harder enough to make it as a photographer today?" - left half the audience wired and inspired and half ready to throw their cameras away. The Grid breaks its record for craziest show ever! It started out as a thoughtful discussion on whether or not photographers are inadvertently turning off their audience on social media with some great insights from Scott's wife, Kalebra… but it wouldn't be The Grid if it didn't veer off the rails at some point, and that point happened when Scott decided to switch places with Nancy and try his hand at running the liveblog. Insanity ensued. Watch to find out how to win a copy of Matt's newest book.
